China Launches World's Largest Offshore Solar Power Plant with 1.78 Billion kWh Annual Capacity

China has successfully launched the world's largest offshore solar power facility, marking a significant milestone in renewable energy infrastructure development.

The power plant is located 8 kilometers off the coast of Dongying and spans an impressive 1,200 hectares. The installation comprises nearly 3,000 floating platforms, with each platform equivalent in size to five basketball courts.

The facility is projected to generate 1.78 billion kWh annually, which is sufficient to power a Russian city with a population of 300,000-400,000 residents, including both residential consumption and municipal infrastructure requirements.

The generated electricity will be adequate to meet approximately 60% of the coastal region's energy demands. From an environmental perspective, the station's operation will deliver ecological benefits equivalent to eliminating the combustion of more than 500,000 tons of coal per year.
