Apple Reclaims Global Smartphone Market Leadership After 15 Years, Surpassing Samsung in 2025
For the first time since 2011, Apple has overtaken Samsung in global smartphone shipments, securing the leading position in the industry for 2025, according to market research data.
According to analyst estimates, Apple increased smartphone sales by 10% year-over-year, bringing its market share to 20%. Samsung maintained positive dynamics but achieved a lower result, capturing approximately 19% of global shipments.
Counterpoint Research attributes Apple's success primarily to record demand for the iPhone 17 lineup, as well as sustained sales of the previous generation. The iPhone 16 series models demonstrated "exceptional performance" throughout the year, analysts note, particularly in Southeast Asian markets, Japan, and India.
This milestone marks a significant shift in the competitive landscape of the global smartphone industry, with Apple regaining the top position it last held over a decade ago.
