French Authorities Raid X's Paris Office, Summon Elon Musk for Interrogation in Expanded Criminal Investigation

French law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with Europol, conducted a search operation at X's Paris office on Tuesday, according to an official announcement from the Paris prosecutor's office. The raid represents a significant escalation in an ongoing criminal investigation that was initially launched in 2025.

The investigation originally focused on allegations of fraudulent data extraction from automated data processing systems by an organized group. However, the French prosecutors' cybercrime unit has now expanded the scope of the probe to include several additional serious allegations:

• Complicity in possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
• Privacy violations
• Holocaust denial

The expansion of the investigation comes amid mounting scrutiny of X and its owner Elon Musk, particularly regarding the platform's Grok AI system, which has allegedly been exploited to generate non-consensual imagery, including child abuse material, depicting other individuals.

Musk, who acquired the social media platform (formerly known as Twitter) in 2022, along with former X CEO Linda Yaccarino, have been officially summoned for questioning scheduled for April 20. Additional unnamed X staff members have also been summoned to appear during the same week, according to the prosecutor's announcement.

Neither X nor representatives from eMed, where Yaccarino currently serves as Chief Executive Officer, responded to requests for comment on the matter.

Maylis De Roeck, spokesperson for the Paris prosecutor's office, confirmed the raid in an official statement, emphasizing the investigation's objectives: "The Public Prosecutor's Office's objective is ultimately to ensure platform X's compliance with French law, given that it operates within the national territory."

This development marks a significant legal challenge for the social media platform as European authorities intensify their regulatory oversight of tech companies operating within their jurisdictions.
