Indian AI Startup Sarvam Expands Edge AI Deployment to Feature Phones, Automotive Systems, and Smart Glasses

Indian artificial intelligence company Sarvam AI has announced strategic initiatives to deploy its recently released AI models across diverse hardware platforms, including Nokia feature phones, automotive systems, and proprietary smart glasses. The venture-backed startup, supported by Lightspeed, PeakXV, and Khosla Ventures, unveiled its expansion strategy at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.

The company's approach leverages edge AI models with minimal footprint requirements—consuming only megabytes of storage—enabling deployment on legacy devices with existing processors and supporting offline functionality. This architectural design democratizes AI accessibility across lower-specification hardware environments.

Strategic Partnerships and Device Integration

Sarvam has established a collaboration with HMD Global to integrate conversational AI assistants into Nokia and HMD mobile devices. Demonstration footage showcased a feature phone equipped with a dedicated AI button, enabling users to interact with voice assistants in regional languages for queries regarding government programs and local commerce information. However, the extent of offline functionality for all demonstrated features remains unconfirmed.

"Through edge AI, we want to bring intelligence to every phone, laptop, car, and even a new generation of devices," stated Tushar Goswamy, Head of Edge AI at Sarvam, during his presentation.

Qualcomm Collaboration and Chipset Optimization

The startup has partnered with Qualcomm to optimize its models for the semiconductor manufacturer's chipset architecture. Qualcomm is concurrently developing a "Sovereign AI Experience Suite" designed for cross-platform deployment spanning smartphones, PCs, laptops, automotive systems, and IoT devices. Specific device deployment details have not been disclosed.

"Our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies can accelerate how we take sovereign AI from research to deployment," said Vivek Raghwan, Co-founder and CEO of Sarvam. "This will allow Sarvam to design models and applications that run closer to the edge, safeguard data, and are ready for adoption, at scale."

Automotive and Wearable AI Solutions

Sarvam has also announced a partnership with Bosch to integrate AI assistants into automotive environments, though technical specifications and implementation timelines remain undisclosed.

Additionally, the company introduced the Sarvam Kaze—AI-enabled smart glasses designed and manufactured domestically in India. Co-founder Pratyush Kumar characterized the device as a "builders' device" scheduled for availability in May.

Strategic Pivot to Consumer Markets

Historically focused on enterprise applications—particularly voice-based models for customer support use cases—Sarvam's recent product announcements and partnership ecosystem signal a strategic pivot toward consumer-facing AI implementations, expanding beyond its traditional B2B market positioning.
