Alta Launches AI-Powered Virtual Styling Integration with Public School Brand
Significant developments have emerged for Jenny Wang, founder of Alta, a company pioneering AI-driven virtual wardrobe technology. Following an $11 million Series A funding round led by Menlo Ventures in 2024, the platform has evolved from concept to market-ready solution, enabling users to create digital closets and visualize outfits using personalized AI-generated avatars.
The technology draws inspiration from the iconic wardrobe management system featured in the film "Clueless," leveraging contemporary artificial intelligence to deliver outfit planning and styling capabilities. The funding round attracted notable investors including models Jasmine Tookes and Karlie Kloss, Anthropic's venture arm Anthology Fund, and Rent the Runway co-founder Jenny Fleiss.
Platform Growth and Industry Recognition
Since its official App Store launch, Alta has achieved significant milestones:

Enterprise Integration Strategy
The company's current focus centers on developing embedded experiences for brand websites, allowing customers to virtually try on designer collections using their personalized Alta avatars. This week marked a significant milestone with the announcement of Alta's first integration partnership with Public School, the renowned New York City fashion brand founded by Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne.
According to Wang, "Shoppers can style looks from the new collection on their own Alta avatar." The partnership emerged through connections with Poshmark's founder, an angel investor in both companies. Notably, Chow has been utilizing the Alta application personally, making the collaboration particularly organic.
Technical Implementation
The Public School integration represents one of the first instances of a fashion brand embedding personalized avatar and styling technology directly into its e-commerce infrastructure. On Public School's product pages, customers can access the "Style by Alta" feature, which redirects them to the Alta platform for avatar-based outfit visualization and styling before purchase.
Wang outlined the strategic vision: "Right now, a user would have to add a potential purchase into their Alta wishlist, then style outfits and try on their avatar, versus being able to do that directly on the brand website." The Public School integration eliminates this friction, with plans to expand similar implementations across additional brand partnerships.
Competitive Differentiation
While major fashion retailers including Zara and Balmain have experimented with digital avatar technologies, Alta distinguishes itself through technical performance metrics. According to Wang, Alta avatars can render 8+ items within seconds, compared to Zara's four-item limit with approximately two-minute processing times.
Future Vision and Agentic Commerce
Wang positions Alta as both a consumer-facing "Clueless"-style virtual closet and an enterprise avatar solution. The long-term strategic objective aims to establish Alta as the "personal identity layer for the future of consumer AI and shopping."
"For agentic commerce to truly work," Wang explained, "we need a data layer that understands the shopper's style preferences, such as their closet, past purchases, and their avatar, likeness, and body, which is Alta."
The platform's dual approach—maintaining a standalone consumer application while providing white-label integration capabilities for enterprise partners—positions Alta to capture value across both B2C and B2B segments of the fashion technology market.
