Amazon Pharmacy Expands Same-Day Prescription Delivery to Nearly 4,500 US Cities
Amazon Pharmacy, the e-commerce giant's digital pharmaceutical platform, has announced plans to extend its same-day prescription delivery service to approximately 4,500 cities and towns across the United States by year-end. This expansion will add nearly 2,000 new communities to the existing delivery network, including previously unserved states such as Idaho and Massachusetts.
The company officially launched Amazon Pharmacy in 2020, following its $753 million acquisition of PillPack, a prescription medication delivery service, in 2018. Building on this foundation, Amazon introduced RxPass in 2023—a subscription service offering Prime members unlimited access to generic medications for a flat fee of $5 per month.
"Patients shouldn't have to choose between speed, cost, and convenience when it comes to their medication, regardless of where they live," stated John Love, Vice President of Amazon Pharmacy. "By combining our pharmacy expertise with our logistics network, we're removing critical barriers and helping patients start treatment faster—setting a new standard for accessible, digital-forward pharmacy care."
In October, Amazon deployed prescription vending machines at its One Medical clinic locations. These automated in-office kiosks, managed by Amazon Pharmacy, enable patients to retrieve their prescriptions immediately following their medical appointments, further streamlining the healthcare delivery process.
