Electronic Arts Faces $55 Billion Acquisition by Saudi Arabia with Board Approval

Electronic Arts is being acquired by Saudi Arabian investors for $55 billion, with the EA board of shareholders having already approved the transaction.

The Saudi investors will gain full control over major franchises including Battlefield, The Sims, FIFA, Apex Legends, Need for Speed, and other prominent brands in the publisher's portfolio.

The investors have pledged to improve game quality without exerting pressure on development teams. However, industry analysts are already anticipating potential consequences including:

• Workforce reductions
• Studio closures
• Loss of EA's operational independence

The deal is expected to close in 2027.
