Apple's AI-Powered Siri Overhaul Faces Further Delays in Internal Testing

Apple has been positioning a comprehensive redesign of Siri, leveraging advanced AI capabilities, since the initial announcement of Apple Intelligence in 2024. However, approximately eighteen months following the unveiling, the deployment timeline for this next-generation virtual assistant continues to experience significant postponements.

According to recent reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the anticipated launch window has shifted once again. While the enhanced Siri functionality was initially scheduled for deployment with the iOS 26.4 update in March, the company is now implementing a phased rollout approach. Some features are expected to be deferred until the May iOS update, with additional capabilities potentially delayed until the iOS 27 release in September.

The delays reportedly stem from complications encountered during internal testing phases, necessitating additional development cycles to ensure product quality and stability.

The planned enhancements aim to transform Siri into a large language model (LLM)-powered conversational assistant, aligning it with contemporary AI chatbot capabilities that have become industry standard. Rather than requiring users to launch separate applications like ChatGPT or Claude on their iPhone or MacBook devices, the upgraded Siri will provide comparable functionality natively, with backend processing powered by Google Gemini.
