Apptronik Secures $935M Series A Extension at $5.3B Valuation for Humanoid Robotics Development

University of Texas spinout Apptronik, a leading developer of humanoid robots collaborating with Google DeepMind and other industry giants, announced on Wednesday that it has extended its Series A funding round to reach a total of $935 million. According to sources, the company's post-money valuation now stands at approximately $5.3 billion.

The robotics startup initially closed a $350 million Series A round one year ago, which was subsequently expanded to $415 million due to overwhelming investor demand. The latest extension adds another $520 million from existing backers including Google, Mercedes-Benz, and B Capital, along with several new strategic investors.

While the funding structure remains classified as Series A, investors have paid progressively higher valuations with each extension—approximately triple the initial Series A valuation of around $1.75 billion, according to PitchBook data. Company representatives indicate that rather than actively seeking capital, they have been responding to strong inbound interest, which is particularly significant given the capital-intensive nature of bipedal robotics development.

For context, competitor Figure AI has raised nearly $2 billion since its 2022 inception, with an additional $1 billion round announced last fall, underscoring the substantial capital requirements in this sector.

Strategic Partnerships and Technology Focus

Apptronik has established key partnerships with Google DeepMind, GXO, and Mercedes-Benz to advance embodied AI capabilities—enabling robots to perceive environmental conditions and execute physical actions based on reasoning rather than predetermined programming sequences.

The company's humanoid robots are being engineered for industrial applications including:

• Trailer unloading operations
• Warehouse inventory picking
• Machinery maintenance and monitoring

Technical Heritage and Development Timeline

Despite maintaining early-stage funding classification, Apptronik brings substantial domain expertise to the humanoid robotics space. The company's technical foundation dates back to 2013, three years prior to its formal incorporation, when team members from the University of Texas at Austin's Human Centered Robotics Lab competed in the NASA-DARPA Robotics Challenge with the Valkyrie robot.

NASA has maintained an ongoing partnership with Apptronik as the company developed its commercial humanoid platform, Apollo, which represents the culmination of over a decade of research and development in bipedal robotics and embodied artificial intelligence.
