Musicboard App Faces Extended Outages and User Uncertainty Amid Service Disruptions

Musicboard, a music discovery and recommendation platform, has been experiencing significant operational challenges that have left its dedicated user base in uncertainty. Over recent months, users have reported multiple service disruptions that have raised concerns about the application's long-term viability.

According to user reports across various platforms, the application has encountered several critical issues:

• Extended server outages and service interruptions
• Complete website unavailability
• Removal of the Android application from the Google Play Store
• Lack of official communication from the development team

The situation has particularly affected the app's active user community. According to data from market intelligence provider Appfigures, Musicboard has accumulated approximately 462,000 downloads to date. Despite this relatively modest user base, the community has remained highly engaged, with users organizing on Reddit to share alternative solutions and provide mutual support during the service disruptions.

A grassroots initiative called "Help Save Musicboard" has emerged, led by community member Lavarini and supported by volunteers. The primary concern among users extends beyond service availability—many are seeking the ability to export their accumulated data before any potential permanent shutdown.

When contacted for comment, the Musicboard team provided a brief statement addressing the situation: "App is not shut down. The servers had temporary downtime, which has now been quickly fixed. And we're working together with the Google Play team to get the app back up there. The app wouldn't shut down without a respectful timeline for the users and official communication. App is staying live."

However, this statement has not addressed the extended nature of the outages or provided clarity on the application's future roadmap. Subsequent inquiries have remained unanswered.

Background on the development team: Musicboard founders Johannes Vermandois and Erik Heimer have been involved in multiple projects concurrently. Their AI-powered application, Frank AI, was previously slated for acquisition by Freedom Holdings, Inc., though the acquisition agreement was terminated in September 2024. The team also operates Dreamsands, Inc., which publishes additional applications including Helm, an AI-based therapy platform.

The community-led preservation effort continues, with Lavarini stating that the initiative "aims to support awareness and discussion around the long-term sustainability of the indie app Musicboard and its community."
