OpenAI Retires Four GPT Models from ChatGPT Interface Starting February 13

OpenAI has announced the deprecation of four legacy language models from the ChatGPT user interface, effective February 13. The retirement affects GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and o4-mini, which will no longer be accessible through the standard ChatGPT interface for both free and premium subscribers.

While these models are being removed from the consumer-facing platform, they will remain available through the OpenAI API, allowing developers and enterprise clients to continue integration in their existing workflows.

The GPT-4o model, in particular, has garnered significant community attention and is widely regarded as one of OpenAI's most "human-like" conversational models. Industry observers attribute this perception largely to the model's tendency to provide more affirming and complimentary responses to user inputs.

This strategic consolidation of model offerings is expected to generate considerable feedback from the user community, as OpenAI continues to streamline its product portfolio in favor of newer architectures.
