Google's Gemini AI Assistant Reaches 750 Million Monthly Active Users, Closing Gap with ChatGPT
Google has announced that its AI-powered assistant Gemini has surpassed 750 million monthly active users (MAUs), according to the company's fourth-quarter 2025 earnings report. This milestone demonstrates the rapid enterprise and consumer adoption of Gemini, positioning it as a major competitor in the generative AI landscape.
The user base represents significant quarter-over-quarter growth, with Google reporting 650 million MAUs for Gemini in the previous quarter. This growth trajectory outpaces Meta AI, which reported approximately 500 million monthly users. However, Gemini still trails behind market leader ChatGPT, which maintains an estimated 810 million MAUs as of late 2025.
The user growth announcement coincides with the launch of Gemini 3, Google's most advanced language model to date. According to the company, Gemini 3 delivers responses with unprecedented depth and contextual understanding. CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized that the Gemini 3 rollout in AI mode served as a "positive driver" for the company's growth metrics and indicated that continued investment in model iteration would sustain this momentum.
To expand market penetration, Google recently introduced Google AI Plus, a more accessible subscription tier priced at $7.99 per month. This offering targets price-sensitive segments and is expected to drive further user acquisition, though it launched too recently to impact the current quarterly figures.
"We are focused on a free tier and subscriptions and seeing great growth," stated Philipp Schindler, Google's Chief Business Officer, during the investor call.
Gemini's expansion contributes to Alphabet's broader financial performance, with the company surpassing $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time. Google attributes this achievement to the scaling of its AI infrastructure and increased enterprise demand for AI services. The company recently unveiled Ironwood, its latest-generation TPU AI accelerator chip, designed to compete directly with Nvidia's GPU offerings.
"The launch of Gemini 3 was a major milestone, and we have great momentum. Our first-party models, like Gemini, now process over 10 billion tokens per minute via direct API use by our customers, and the Gemini App has grown to over 750 million monthly active users. Search saw more usage than ever before, with AI continuing to drive an expansionary moment," Pichai stated in the earnings release.
